Ballet Folklórico de México de Amalia Hernández arrives at the Center for the Performing Arts
Mexico’s most celebrated dance company, Ballet Folklórico de México de Amalia Hernández, makes its much anticipated arrival to San Jose Center for Performing Arts on Saturday, October 10th in this brilliant visual and theatrical event!
Forty dancers and sixteen musicians will have you marveling at the magnificent costumes and in awe of the incredible beauty and energy of these Mexican folk dances.
Dancer, teacher, and choreographer, Amalia Hernández, established Ballet Folklórico in 1952. They were invited to represent Mexico in the 1959 Pan American Games and this success led to support from the Mexican president, Adolfo Lopez Mateos, who proclaimed Hernández’s company the “best ballet in the world.” The group expanded from eight performers to a 50-piece ensemble and has since represented Mexico on the planet’s most renowned stages, earned more than 200 awards in Mexico, travelled to more than 80 countries, been praised universally by the critics, and thrilled audiences of millions from all over the world.
