Jamie Davis' deep, compelling baritone leaves audiences feeling good--really good. Music Critic Andy Gilbert calls Davis "one of the finest male jazz singers on the West Coast--an entertainer of the old school, an eager to please performer who can belt the blues, croon American Songbook ballads with a warm, burnished bass, and deliver Stevie Wonder hits with soulful authority."
Davis has performed with The Count Basie Orchestra and in great Jazz rooms around the globe including Yoshi's in San Francisco; Dizzy's and The Blue Note in New York, Milan, Tokyo, and Istanbul; and Ronnie Scott's in London. He's also appeared to great acclaim at the Monterey Jazz Festival and at the Sacramento, Aspen, Dubai, Cheltenham, Edinburgh, Annecy and Serbia Jazz festivals.
His recent recording, Vibe Over Perfection, reached #18 on the U.S. Jazz charts. Davis' latest project is a live recording from inside Louisiana State Penitentiary. Free On The Inside blends together Jazz and Gospel genres and features Jamie Davis, Scotty Barnhart, Wycliffe Gordon, Lady Bianca, Charles McNeal in an all-star big band under the direction of Dennis Wilson. The CD/DVD will be released in 2011.
This performance is supported, in part, by a generous gift from Jan De Carli.
