TEAM SAN JOSE SIGNS THREE-YEAR DEAL WITH ROCK ‘N’ ROLL SAN JOSE HALF MARATHON
Booking Estimated to Generate Nearly $14 Million in Economic Impact 2010-2012
SAN JOSE, CA (Sept. 1, 2010) – Team San Jose has secured a three-year contract with Rock ‘N’ Roll San Jose Half Marathon -- the largest on the west coast -- projected to generate nearly $42 million for the local economy, announced Dan Fenton, CEO of Team San Jose.
“We’re pleased to bring our partnership with this signature San Jose event to a new level,” said Fenton. “The race and festivities attract an affluent demographic, including runners and their friends, family and fans, which means big business for local hotels, restaurants, shops and arts and culture venues. Team San Jose and San Jose Hotels Inc. have worked hard to keep this important event is our community long term. Investing in the continued growth of this event will pay dividends down the road for San Jose visitation and exposure.”
According to organizers, the race, which debuted in 2006, has brought more than 45 million in economic impact to the city. Known as California’s fastest half marathon, the 5th annual race takes place Sunday, Oct. 3, 2010 at 8:00 am. “Rock ‘n’ Roll San Jose has earned a reputation as the premier stand alone half marathon on the west coast,” said Scott Dickey, President of Competitor Group. “We are excited to continue that tradition in San Jose and look forward to its continued growth and success.”
Registration for this year’s event is up 15 percent, with more than 13,500 runners and walkers, and 20,000 spectators expected to participate. The race features live bands at every mile along the course, a scenic tour of San Jose, and local high school cheerleading squads to provide hometown entertainment and motivation all the way to the finish line. Event weekend concludes with a finish line concert at Plaza de Cesar Chavez featuring Blues Traveler, which is free and open to the public starting at noon.

The Health & Fitness Expo kicks off the weekend at the San Jose Convention Center on Friday and Saturday, October 1st & 2nd.
