North American Roller Hockey Championships Roll Into San Jose This July
Over 433 Teams from Seven Countries to Compete

SAN JOSE, CA (July 1, 2008) – San Jose Welcomes the North American Roller Hockey Championships (NARCh) to San Jose from July 11-27, 2008. This first time event in San Jose will bring over 5,000 players ranging in age from six to thirty-five and over. Previous championships saw approximately 15,000 visitors to the local community as a result of the championships.

"San Jose is proud to be this year's home of the North American Roller Hockey Championships," said Dan Fenton, President & CEO of the San Jose Convention & Visitors Bureau and Chairman of Team San Jose. "Whether you are visiting as a player, parent or family member, San Jose is a great location for sporting events. To the competing teams, play well and enjoy all that San Jose has to offer."

Narch is the largest inline hockey tournament in the world and one of the largest youth sporting tournaments. The finals will bring over 433 teams competing from various countries including the United States, Canada, Japan, Mexico, Colombia, Brazil, and France. Previous city hosts included St. Paul, Minnesota; Estero, Florida; Cincinnati, Ohio; and the Greater Toronto Area.

"We're very excited to bring our 15th NARCh Finals to San Jose. It's the first time the event has taken place on the West Coast since Vancouver in '97", Daryn Goodwin NARCh President. "There are not many venues that can handle this event, but the new Silver Creek Sportsplex is one of them, and we're excited to be in San Jose!"

This year's championships will be held at San Jose's Silver Creek Sportsplex located in South San Jose. The sportsplex is the largest indoor fitness and sports facility under one roof in North America with 240,000 square feet of sports related space.

Teams will compete in divisions based on their age and expert level. The Pro Division will be competing for a $20,000 prize on July 26th.

About NARCh

To ensure the growth of roller hockey, the North American Roller Hockey Championships (NARCh) formed in 1994 to direct the competitive infrastructure, official rules and marketing efforts for roller hockey. NARCh premiered in 1994 at the All American Sports Mall in St. Louis where 38 teams competed. Since 1994, the NARCh finals have grown to become one of the largest youth sporting events in the world, as well as the largest hockey tournament (ice or roller) in the world.
