Sales (Full-Time)


POSITION SUMMARY: The Director of Sales and Destination Services will direct, motivate and lead the sales managers. This highly experienced Director of Sales & Destination Services should have convention hotel sales and a leadership background. Team San Jose is seeking an individual with previous convention center and/or Destination Marketing experience. The right individual will need to be organized, proactive and aggressive in this complex market. A self-starter with positive energy and a proven record of exceeding goals is a must.



• Directs, monitors and contributes to the overall economic performance of the organization through room night production and facilities revenues.
• Generates and manages sales efforts to effectively and most profitably sell hotel rooms and meeting space.
• Develops and supports sales leadership in the implementation of strategic sales plans to accommodate corporate goals.
• Develops and maintains stakeholder relations as it relates to business opportunities.
• Participates in sales forecasting and setting of performance goals accordingly.
• Reviews market analyses to determine customer needs, price schedules, and discount rates.
• Assists in training and performance evaluations to develop the sales team
• Analyzes sales analytics to identify areas where sales can be increased.
• Meets with key clients, assists the sales team with maintaining relationships, negotiating and closing deals.
• Functions as a liaison between sales department and other departments. • Analyzes and controls expenditures of the department to conform to budgetary requirements.
• Prepares periodic sales reports showing sales volume, potential sales, and areas of proposed client base expansion.
• Assists in maintenance of all national, regional, state, corporate/tour files and the tracing of those files.
• Responsible for submitting required reports on a timely basis.
• Assists with the development of the annual company budget using group and transient forecasts, taking into consideration special events
• Maintains an active membership to local industry associations.
• Participates in writing the annual Marketing Plan to help determine goals and plans on how to accomplish those goals.
• Monitors and evaluates the activities and products of the competition.
• SUPERVISORY DUTIES: Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the company's policies and applicable laws.
• Drive own vehicle for company business as needed



• Minimum of five (5) years’ experience with convention and visitor bureaus, hotels or convention center with a demonstrated record of sales/marketing experience and supervision
• Large convention hotel sales and leadership experience.
• Strong working knowledge of national and international association, corporate, third party organizations, and all key vertical market segments that produce in second and first tier destinations.
• Previous convention center and/or DMO experience.
• Experience selling a complex market that requires an aggressive proactive approach.
• Professional memberships and leadership positions in key industry organizations
• Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent
• Strong computer skills, including knowledge of all Microsoft Office software
• Ability to manage telecommuters and personnel in satellite offices
• Well trained in the technical aspect of sales management
