Position Summary

The Director of Human Resources acts as a trusted advisor and strategic partner to lead TSJ people programs in alignment with the organizational objectives and goals. The role is responsible for overseeing all aspects of Human Resources including the administration, coordination and evaluation of the human resource function to each of Team San Jose's business lines: Visit San Jose, San Jose Theaters, and the San Jose McEnery Convention Center. This position will report directly to the Vice President of Human Resources, while overseeing a team of human resources professionals.

 

Position Responsibilities

  • Acts as an HR strategic business partner to provide value-added service to management and employees while ensuring continuous alignment to the business objectives of the company.  
  • Provides day-to-day consulting and support services to managers in the execution and delivery of HR programs and policies.
  • Conducts thorough investigations and negotiates to effectively resolve employee issues and union grievances.
  • Leads a Human Resources team of five professionals.
  • Implements high quality HR programs and services that enable the attainment of business and organizational goals.
  • Establishes and maintains the alignment of HR initiatives/programs with the Team San Jose and San Jose CVB corporate objectives.
  • Proactively initiates dialog with management team to provide superior counsel and advice on all matters related to the engagement and commitment of employees.
  • As a strategic business partner, change agent and member of the management team, helps define and drive strategic plans and objectives.
  • Drives workforce planning and skills analysis, provides organizational development support by creating succession plans, providing leadership analysis, and participating in the design of development plans.  
  • Provides executive staff individual coaching and feedback on behaviors and styles/methods of communication that impact the productivity and morale of employees.
  • Conducts audits to ensure employment law compliance.
  • Responsible for understanding, interpretation and compliance with labor union agreements.
  • Safeguards the organizations’ risk, liability and exposure by ensuring that the certificates of insurance are properly executed and that an all-inclusive insurance package is intact each fiscal year.

Position Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years Human Resources Director level or above experience required.
  • Experience overseeing Labor and Employee relations in a unionized setting required.
  • Experience and working knowledge of CA labor laws and market required.
  • Thorough knowledge of Human Resources practices and procedures as well as considerable knowledge of Federal, State and Local laws and regulations pertaining to Human Resources matters.
  • Well-developed teambuilding and influencing skills, and the experience, confidence, and stature to effectively address sensitive HR issues. Demonstrated experience in having managed large-scale change initiatives through implementation.
  • Able to balance strategic and systems thinking with operational implementation and execution.
  • Sound judgment, business acumen and the ability to contribute positively to entire organization.
