Perfect Combination: Ledesma and Azarcon

Some people leave behind buildings or monuments. Others leave something far greater—they leave transformed lives. Rev. Fr. Reynaldo Sarmiento was one of those rare priests whose greatest legacy was the people he loved. Throughout his years of ministry in the Diocese of San Jose, he became known for his gentle spirit, compassionate heart, and unwavering presence for those seeking spiritual guidance. He was a trusted mentor, a faithful friend, and a compassionate shepherd whose kindness touched countless lives. Among those closest to his heart were our unhoused brothers and sisters. Fr. Rey believed that every person deserved to be treated with dignity, respect, and love. He never saw the homeless as strangers, but as beloved children of God deserving of compassion and hope. To honor his extraordinary legacy, St. Joseph of Cupertino Church proudly presents this concert, Perfect Combination: Ledesma and Azarcon. The Singer and Composer, a special memorial concert celebrating the gift of his life and ministry. More than an evening of exceptional music, this concert is an opportunity to continue the mission Fr. Rey embraced so wholeheartedly. Proceeds from this event will benefit the Homeless Ministry of the St. Joseph of Cupertino Outreach Ministry and support the ongoing ministries of St. Joseph of Cupertino Church, allowing his spirit of generosity and compassion to continue touching lives for years to come.

The evening will feature three of the Philippines’ most celebrated and beloved artists, whose music has inspired audiences around the world.

Acclaimed as one of the Philippines’ most prolific and respected songwriters, Cecile Azarcon has composed many of the country’s most beloved Original Pilipino Music (OPM) classics. Raised in a family of musicians—her mother, Minda Azarcon, was an accomplished opera singer, concert pianist, and voice teacher—Cecile began playing the piano at the age of three and composing music by the age of six. Her breakthrough came at just nineteen with the timeless classic “Lift Up Your Hands,” first recorded by Basil Valdez. Since then, she has written an extraordinary collection of enduring hits, including “Sana Ay Ikaw Na Nga,” “Ikaw ang Lahat sa Akin,” “So, It’s You,” “Special Memory,” “Even If,” “I Think I’m in Love,” “One More Try,” “Reaching Out,” and “How Did You Know,” performed by many of the Philippines’ most celebrated recording artists. Now residing in the San Francisco Bay Area, Cecile serves as Music Director of Faith Bible Church in Vallejo while continuing to mentor aspiring singers and songwriters through private instruction, concert productions, and recording projects. Her music continues to inspire generations with its sincerity, faith, and emotional depth.

A true icon of Philippine music, Kuh Ledesma has captivated audiences for more than four decades with her elegant voice, commanding stage presence, and remarkable artistry. Known as the “Pop Diva” and “OPM’s Pop Chanteuse,” she rose to national prominence in the early 1980s through her sophisticated blend of pop, jazz, and ballads. Her distinguished career has included numerous historic milestones. In 1988, she became one of the first Filipino artists to headline her own concert at Carnegie Hall in New York. The following year, she became the first Filipino recipient of London’s prestigious Salem Music Award, further establishing her international reputation. Her American album Precious featured songs by Kenny Loggins and Michael McDonald and reached the Top 20 of the U.S. Billboard Jazz Charts. Throughout her remarkable career, she has received numerous honors, including the Pilita Corrales Lifetime Achievement Award, the Aliw Awards Lifetime Achievement Award, the Gawad Buhay Singer of the Year Award, and the Dangal ng Musikang Pilipino Award from the Awit Awards. With nineteen albums and more than a thousand concerts to her credit, Kuh Ledesma remains one of the most influential ambassadors of Original Pilipino Music and a beloved figure in Filipino culture worldwide.

Singer, actor, and recording artist Tim Pavino has become one of the brightest talents of his generation through his remarkable versatility in both music and theater. Born and raised in Seattle, Washington, Tim discovered his love for the performing arts before moving to the Philippines, where his career flourished. National audiences came to know him through The Voice Philippines, where he was mentored by internationally acclaimed artist Lea Salonga. Beyond television, Tim has earned critical acclaim on the Philippine stage, notably portraying the title role in the musical Miong, commemorating the centennial of President Emilio Aguinaldo. His performances have demonstrated not only vocal excellence but also a deep appreciation for Filipino history and culture. As a recording artist, Tim has released well-loved singles including “We Were 16” and “No More You and I,” and collaborated internationally on “Your Eyes,” a song promoting hope and meaningful relationships. His achievements have been recognized through prestigious honors including the Aliw Awards and nominations from the Awit Awards. Today, Tim continues to inspire audiences with performances marked by sincerity, artistry, and heartfelt storytelling.
