Skylar Tang

Skylar Tang is a multidisciplinary musician known for her dynamic trumpet playing and profound compositions. At nineteen, she's one of the brightest young voices in international jazz, sharing stages with Sean Jones, Dee Dee Bridgewater and Rufus Reid, and appearing on Joshua Redman's latest album Words Fall Short. She won the 2022 Essentially Ellington Student Composition/Arranging Contest, conducting her original composition "Kaleidoscope" with the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra.

A San Francisco Bay Area native who studies History and Jazz Performance at Columbia University and The Juilliard School, Tang has performed at Carnegie Hall, SFJAZZ, Dizzy’s Club, Kennedy Center, Monterey Jazz Fest and Davies Symphony Hall. Her international appearances include a two-month residency at Expo 2025 Osaka and tours in Europe and South Africa with Carnegie Hall's National Youth Orchestra Jazz Band.

As a bandleader and composer, Tang seeks to capture moments where we feel truly present. Her music is about finding peace and chosen community within the frustration of being a young person in today's world, cultivating an atmosphere that welcomes and affirms the listener.
