Mexican Heritage Plaza
Mexican Heritage Plaza in San Jose’s historic Mayfair neighborhood is a vibrant cultural and arts center dedicated to celebrating and preserving Chicano and Mexican-American heritage. Opened in 1999 and operated by the School of Arts and Culture, this community hub features a 500-seat theater, gardens, classrooms, galleries, and gathering spaces that host performances, exhibitions, educational programs, and festivals year-round.
The plaza also showcases striking public art and mosaics honoring influential artists connected to the local community, and it anchors memorable cultural events such as the annual Avenida de Altares for Día de los Muertos and festive holiday celebrations that bring together families and visitors to experience music, dance, art, and tradition in the heart of East San Jose.
