Open Space Authority

The Santa Clara Valley Open Space Authority manages a network of scenic preserves in and around San Jose that protect natural landscapes while providing public access to outdoor recreation. Established in the early 1990's, the agency’s mission is to conserve open space, support agriculture, and connect people to nature across Santa Clara County. The Open Space Preserves in the San Jose area include the Sierra Vista Open Space Preserve, the Rancho Cañada del Oro Open Space Preserve, and the Coyote Valley Open Space Preserve. These outdoor spaces include diverse ecosytsems from oak woodlands and grasslands to rare serpentine habitats rich in wildlife. They are open year-round and offer hiking, biking, horseback riding, and educational programs that encourage residents to experience and appreciate the region’s outdoor spaces.
